照顧者身心健康

You can't pour from an empty cup.

Caregiver burnout is common, quiet and rarely admitted. Here's how to notice it early and what actually helps.

Signs worth taking seriously

Sleep goes first

Lying awake listening for noises, or waking at the same hour every night.

Short fuse

Snapping at the person you're caring for, then feeling guilty for hours.

Shrinking world

Turning down every invitation until nobody invites you anymore.

Numbness

Going through the motions with no sense of why you're doing it.

What genuinely helps

  • Share the load with a written rota, not vague promises from siblings.
  • Book one fixed break a week and treat it like a medical appointment.
  • Use technology for the watching, so you can use your energy for the caring.
  • Say the hard things out loud to someone outside the family.
  • Accept help in specific forms: a meal, a lift, an afternoon.

A safety net helps you rest

Much of caregiver exhaustion is the constant listening. An EasiLink alarm moves that job to a 24-hour monitoring centre, when something happens, you are called. Until then, you can sleep.
