長者照顧及支援

Care options, explained simply.

Hong Kong has more support than most families realise. The hard part is knowing what each service is called.

The main types of support

Day care centres

Daytime activities, meals and supervision, so carers can work.

Home help

Personal care, cleaning, escorting to appointments and simple nursing at home.

Meal services

Delivered or centre-based meals suited to older diets.

Respite and residential

Short breaks for carers, and longer-term homes when care needs grow.

Choosing between them

  • Start with the daily routine: what actually goes wrong, and at what time of day?
  • Match the smallest service that solves it, most families over-buy care too early.
  • Ask about waiting lists before you plan around a service.
  • Visit in person and watch how staff speak to residents.
  • Add a 24-hour alarm alongside any service, for the hours nobody is there.

Staying at home longer

Most older adults in Hong Kong want to stay in their own flat. Small changes, grab rails, better lighting, a meal service and a personal alarm, often delay a move into residential care by years.
